The D40 requires an AF-S lens as far as I know, I have never actually used one. I know it will work wit the D70. I recommend trying it out before buying it if that is possible. It works on the D70 by setting everything to manual. Good luck

Pelosi vows more civil approach next year (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1207/7335.html) By Jim VandeHei and John F. Harris | The Politico, Dec 12, 2007

Across the ideological spectrum, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has dashed expectations.

On the right, the hope was that Pelosi would be the tallest lightning rod in Washington playing to type as a San Francisco liberal and handing the Republican minority all manner of ideological openings to exploit. For the most part, that has not happened.

On the left, the hope was that Pelosi would lead the newly empowered Democrats to hijack President Bushs agenda on the issue that matters most to party activists ending the Iraq war.

To Pelosis regret, that has not happened either.

Appraisals of Pelosis first year revolve around these fallen hopes and come with still another surprise: For all her history-making status as the first woman to run the House, Pelosi has emerged as a fairly conventional leader.

This is partly to her credit.

She has run a highly disciplined operation, keeping a potentially fractious caucus unified on tough issues.

And she has restrained some of her own instincts representing one of the nations most liberal districts.

With a couple of prominent exceptions, she has not handed Republicans opportunities to exploit impolitic statements or legislative maneuvers.

But conventionality has come at a steep cost.

Few members of either party, when speaking privately, argue that what Congress needs most is a change of party with a continuation of the highly partisan status quo.

In many ways, thats what Pelosi represents.

Democrats bridled at being marginalized under 12 years of Republican rule, but Pelosi has treated turnabout as fair play.

Bending a promise made to voters in the last election, the speaker has shut Republicans out of many debates by limiting their ability to offer alternative ideas on the House floor and made only modest attempts to engage Republicans on many issues, notably Iraq.

This represents a probably accurate calculation about whats necessary to keep her own party cohesive.

But polarized government has also thwarted some of Pelosis own objectives.

The first of those is forcing Bush to end the war. All of the good things that we did, which were, I mean, astounding are eclipsed by the war in Iraq, she said in a Politico interview.

She added that she has been surprised by Democrats inability to peel off GOP dissenters.

If I had to say one thing that I would have appraised differently it would have been that I would not have expected the Republicans in Congress to stick with the president on this war this long, she said. Not from their personal statements to us privately or the public mood in their own districts.

The inability to resolve the Iraq debate or tackle the other most pressing issues is one reason the number of people saying they disapprove of the performance of Congress at 70 percent in some recent surveys has risen 15 to 20 points or more since the start of the year.

Pelosi acknowledged she and her leadership team could have done better at managing expectations.

Maybe we should have been thinking about how we were communicating with the public more, she said. Maybe I should have from the start just established what we were doing instead of having to be responsive to the press about somebody said this, they thought you were doing that, because this place is a total rumor mill.

Even so, Pelosi made clear that she is fine with drawing sharp, partisan lines when necessary.

I certainly want my speakership to be distinguished by a level of civility and bipartisanship when thats possible, she said. That is what I hope to do in this next year, I really do.

But as for this year? I had a job to get done this year, she said. I had a decision to make; I had to remove obstacles to getting a job done.

She got it done, at times.

Early in the session, Democrats moved their six for 06 package promised in the previous election. That included raising the minimum wage, enacting homeland security upgrades and reducing student loan rates.

They also helped their members by pushing for more spending on childrens health care, a political no-brainer for many members, and demanding that Congress offset the cost of new spending with spending cuts or revenue increases elsewhere.

Along the way, the elegantly styled speaker, a grandmother of seven, proved herself a steel magnolia a self-confident leader who projected strength in a way that caused powerful subordinates to defer to her.

Even Vice President Cheney complimented (in a distinctly backhanded way) her leadership, noting he was surprised that such old Democratic bulls of the House as Reps. John P. Murtha of Pennsylvania and John Dingell of Michigan seem to follow her lead.

They are not carrying the big sticks I would have expected, Cheney told Politico.

Theres a woman who runs that place with an iron hand, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told Politico in an interview. I am sure that some people are a little disappointed [that] this diminutive, very attractive woman is bowling people over men and women.

Pelosi has succeeded in part by having her own team of old bulls, such as Rep. George Miller of California, and younger bulls, such as Rep. Rahm Emanuel of Illinois, on her team.

What is sometimes called a weakness a penchant for micromanaging, for instance has helped tighten her grip and enhance her standing.

She has muffed up on a few high-profile occasions. A trip to Syria earlier this year was ridiculed by Republicans as clumsy, freelance diplomacy.

She was forced by her Democratic colleagues to quit pushing for the Armenian genocide resolution because it was clearly complicating U.S. relations with Turkey.

The final verdict on her handling of the Iraq debate awaits the year ahead whether Democrats can either force a change in policy or make Republicans pay a heavy price in the 2008 elections.

For now, the best grade Pelosi can get is incomplete: Democrats have had no substantive success in changing policy.

One what-if echoes. Some members say Democrats missed a golden opportunity early in the summer to find compromise and split Republicans from Bush, laying the groundwork for limits on the military operation.

Pelosi instead pursued an unyielding approach that turned off even the war skeptics inside the GOP.

In a sign of the pressures Pelosi is under, however, it is the anti-war liberals in her own party who offer the harshest assessment of the Pelosi reign so far.

When you look back at this year, it will be defined as the year of lost opportunities, said Ohio Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich, a long-shot presidential candidate. This was the time to use the power of the majority to chart a new direction. So far its been not only a missed opportunity but a failure.

California Rep. Lynn Woolsey added: I personally dont think [the strategy] worked. As a result, everything weve done on student loans, minimum wage, the six in 06 agenda gets lost.

By one standard, however, Pelosi can look back on 2007 as a clear success. Her party is as well-organized, and her own position within it more secure, at years end compared with years start.

I am not going to let one issue blow up this caucus, she said. We always strive for unity.

I think once the I-140 application is filed based on the state of residence, USCIS can transfer it to any service center. The applicant doesnt have any control over it. As far as I know, the applicant cannot request for a change in service center.

Each application is seperate as each one is for a seperate future job. Filing a new EB2 labor will have no effect on your existing EB3 app.

You should not be getting RFE on new app due to old app being pending.

    Hi there,

    I have this question.
I have got the green card along with some of my family members except my older child who was 21 at the time of my I-140 application.
I filled out an I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN last December and it was approved last month.

I am a bit confused as on the approval notice it is said that in 90 days National Visa Center is going to send the beneficiary a set of instructions. Calling NVC myself I was told that they are not going to sent anything, it is supposed to wait for a visa number to become available and they are working now on visa cases from 2002!

Does anybody has an idea how this is working and how long it will take to get a "visa number" and a green card? Is the origin country (Romania) of any significance in terms of time?

    Thank you in advance!

I talked to my attorney yesterday about converting my April 2001 TR (EB3 India) to RIR regarding the "hold Harmless" rule and he told me that AILA is going to get more info on the 10th next week regarding more info and would it be safe to convert or not.
The thing holding him back right now is the fact that some of his other DBEC LC clients sent e-mail request 2 weeks ago and have still not received anything back about Prevailing wage or any ammendments.Once you send the e-mail your case is RIR only and all paper work has to be sent by April 01 or your case is closed. Now say you send for RIR conversion 15th January and it takes DBEC 1 month to get back to you and that leaves a very tight window to get all Recruitment report together by April 01.
I will post next week after the 12th and see what he says.
As far as the September 2007 date he told me that AILA has allready found out that both DBEC and PBEC have got an extension and funding till Febraury 2008 but do not want to annonunce because the pressure all people who are stuck writing to their Senators and Congress.

I applied AP around same time and got it couple of days ago.

Check not cashed is indication of missing mail, either by mailing services (USPS, FEDEX, ...) or in USCIS. Average time for check to be cashed is less than 10 days.

Whether you should open SR or re-apply, someone who faced similar situation can provide better answer.

Some paras from Congress's Oversight Offensive (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/16/AR2007031601989.html), By David S. Broder (http://projects.washingtonpost.com/staff/email/david+s.+broder/), Sunday, March 18, 2007

Ten weeks into the new Congress, it is clear that revelation, not legislation, is going to be its real product.

While President Bush threatens to use his veto pen to stop some bills and Senate Republicans block other measures from even reaching his desk, no force in Washington can halt the Democrats' investigative juggernaut from uncovering the secrets inside this administration.

For the first six years of the Bush administration, these aides were allowed free rein to carry out whatever policy or political assignments they wished -- or supposed that the president wanted done. A Congress under firm Republican control was somnolent when it came to oversight of the executive branch. No Republican committee chairman wanted to turn over rocks in a Republican administration.

You have to feel a twinge of sympathy now for the Bush appointees who suddenly find unsympathetic Democratic chairmen such as Henry Waxman, John Conyers, Patrick Leahy and Carl Levin investigating their cases. Even if those appointees are scrupulously careful about their actions now, who knows what subpoenaed memos and e-mails in their files will reveal about the past?

They will pay the price for the temporary breakdown in the system of checks and balances that occurred between 2001 and this year -- when the Republican Congress forgot its responsibility to hold the executive branch accountable.

It was a fundamental dereliction of duty by Congress, and it probably did more to encourage bad decisions and harmful actions by executive-branch political appointees than the much-touted lobbying influence. In reality, many Republican members of Congress did not mind what was happening because they were able to get favors done in that permissive climate. Now, the Democratic investigators will publicize instances of influence by members of Congress, and the political fallout will not stop with New Mexico's Pete Domenici and Heather Wilson.

Democrats find it easier to investigate than to legislate. With their major initiatives, from a minimum-wage boost to a shutdown of the Iraq war, stymied by Republican opposition, the Democrats are understandably making "accountability" their new goal -- meaning more and more investigations.

Fulfilling that promise, later in the week the House passed a series of bills that stripped some of the secrecy from executive branch documents and decisions.

Accountability is certainly important, but Democrats must know that people were really voting for action on Iraq, health care, immigration, energy and a few other problems. Investigations are useful, but only legislation on big issues changes lives.

    Hello,
I am in a pretty scary scenario...

My I-140 got denied based on inability to pay. My firm did send out the appeal to fight out the case. The appeal was sent 15 days back with the time limit stated in the denial letter. But today, I received the I-485 denial for both me (primary applicant) & my spouse (dependent).

I have H-1 as a back up but my spouse does not have H-4 status.

    My Questions & concerned:

    1) How long does it take INS to accept the appeal as I haven't seen any update on the same since the package has been delivered (15 days)?

    2) What is next possible step for my spouse & how long can he stay in this country without applying for H-4?

    3) If the appeal is accepted & the case gets into processing, will I-485 get back on track for processing & can my spouse start working on EAD?

Would appreciate any sought of guidance possible from the expert lawyers & the individuals with the similar experience & knowledge.

Time is very crucial & so immediate reply will be highly appreciated...

    Thanx in Advance

    Hi Gurus,

I was wondering if anyone on this site has ever filed an EB2-NIW I-140 petition ? And if so, what fields have you filed it in ? Do you necessarily need a masters degree or would 10+ years of experience in systems development qualify ?

I was also wondering if working in the health-care technology field, to create systems to diagnose and monitor cardiovascular systems to detect/prevent heart diseases would be something that could considered in the "national interest" ? If there is a job offer already extended to someone to work on such projects, would you still need a labor certification ?

Thank you in advance for taking the time out to read this and reply.

Approximately how many labor applications were filed each day for EB3-India. ?

Assuming around 5-10 each day and around 300 days in a year . it would
be around 3000 . Considering that there was minor downturn in 2001-2002
year i'm assuming that Cut-Off dates should be moving faster for EB3-I.

Note: I'm in EB3 India category and trying to make a calculated guess.

    Hi,
I was on H4 and had applied for H1B in 2008. After long processing and being pending for a long time it finally got approved in July 2009.

My question is, does my H1B start from oct 2008 or oct 2009? Can someone reply me on this.

    Thanks

My husband's labor was filed in the end of June, no response yet. It was much faster for me in 2006. I would also like to know if anyone got a response.
    Thanks!
